The tradition of a Christmas tree began in Livonia and Germany in the 16th Century.  Also known as a “Yule tree,” the word “Tannenbaum” is German for “fir tree” which is understood as “Christmas tree,” although the literal meaning of Christmas tree is “Weihnachtsbaum.”

Today, many people can be found hustling and bustling about checking off items on their holiday to-do lists.  The most important item is, of course, the Christmas tree.  Where do you go to find the perfect Christmas tree?

Rising from the Waters

Tunkhannock is a charming borough in Wyoming County with a thriving historic district and beautiful scenery.  Situated in the Endless Mountains along the Susquehanna River, the peaceful area recently suffered a tremendous loss from the relentless torrential downpours brought on by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.  The two storms hit within a week of each other, bringing river and creek levels to devastating highs, forcing people to evacuate their homes and causing a state of emergency declaration. Eating as close to the earth as possible is highly recommended, and many local chefs and restaurants utilize fresh produce, meats, cheeses, syrups, herbs, and seasonings from local farms, farmers markets, vendors, and individuals. Some of these restaurants even have their own gardens where they grow produce and herbs and cook with then.
