Named 2009 New Jersey Winery of the Year

For the third time in five years, Alba Vineyard has been honored as “New Jersey’s Winery of the Year” at the 2009 State Wine Competition organized by Rutgers and the State Wine Industry Council. The panel of judges included members of the National Society of Wine Educators, the American Wine Society, and various wine industry publications and representatives of the region’s largest commercial wine and spirits distributors.

Alba Vineyard has truly emerged as one of the East Coast’s most dynamic independent wineries, producing consistently high quality wines that are extremely reliable, deliver great value and at the same time are anything but ordinary. All told, Alba brought in six Gold medals (the most ever in the history of the competition), seven Silver medals, and two Bronze. Also added to the list, “Best State Vinifera” for their 2007 Estate Reserve Chardonnay and “State’s Best Fruit Wine” for their nationally recognized Red Raspberry.

Each year, hundreds of New Jersey wines are entered into the competition for the chance to win one of the many coveted awards. In announcing the award, Dr. Gary Pavlis, competition chairman, said, “It was a slam-dunk. Alba won Winery of the Year by the largest margin ever.”

The “New Jersey Winery of the Year” honor comes on the heels of a banner year of awards and accolades for Alba Vineyard – including to date: Gold Medal and Best in Class for their 2007 Dry Riesling in the prestigious San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition; Gold Medal and Best in Class for their ice apple wine “Forbidden” in the 2009 Pacific Rim International Wine Competition; a Gold Medal for their 2007 estate Pinot Noir in the 2009 Tasters Guild International Wine Competition; and “96 points” Platinum, Superlative and Best Buy for their Blueberry in the 2009 World Wine Championships (tastings.com).

Bought out of bankruptcy in 1998, Alba Vineyard is a relative newcomer to the world of fine wines at a very young eleven years of age. The winery produces a broad portfolio of premium estate wines. Over the course of the last five years of its production, the winery has received more than 200 awards and medals from both regional and international wine competitions. Inspired by the hillside terroir of its Musconetcong Valley estate, densely planted, low yielding vines endure the challenging elements that produce exceptional grapes. The wine is nurtured and animated through careful hillside viticulture and innovative artisan methods. For the last decade the Alba Vineyard winemaking team has sustainably farmed and hand-picked the best fruit that the 45 acres of estate vineyards have to offer, vintage after vintage. The proof of their collective success is in the consistent quality of award-winning Alba wines and in the legions of loyal Alba fans all over the east coast.

Alba Vineyard is nestled amongst the rolling hills of Warren County, New Jersey, two miles east of the Delaware River and historic Bucks County, Pennsylvania, in the beautiful Musconetcong Valley in Pohatcong Township, New Jersey. The winery and tasting room are housed in a historic 1805 converted stone barn which features an impressive wood tasting bar, rustic stone walls and old oak beams.
